Experience the beauty, warmth, luxury and hospitality of Skaneateles. This village is nestled on the shores of Skaneateles Lake (one of the cleanest lakes in the country) and considered the “Jewel of the Finger Lakes region”. It’s the kind of place that romance novels are set in. The pristine lake, luxurious sail boats, quaint but affluent shops, and occasional celebrity sightings make this place the perfect escape. You feel a sense of belonging here - whether it's to raise a family, build a business, escape for a weekend or stay for the season.
The historic downtown district’s shops and galleries are housed in restored buildings dating back to 1796. Browse for unique foods, distinctive fashions, original art, home accessories or a special antique. Relax at a restaurant or tavern; the atmosphere may be casual and lively or quietly gracious, but the menu is always tempting. Skaneateles means “long lake” in the Iroquois language. It is home to a thriving residential and business community, and host to thousands of visitors and vacationers each year.
For fall, drop in for the wine tasting, the fall colors, apple and pumpkin picking and so much more. Skaneateles comes to life in the summer. Every Friday in July (7:30 pm) and August (7 pm) the Skaneateles Community Band performs lively music at the Gazebo in Clift Park on Skaneateles Lake. Hundreds of people arrive with blankets and lawn chairs for this festive event. Children dance and boaters pull up to listen from the lake side. Good for all ages and it’s FREE. Take a hot-air balloon ride for breath-taking views of Skaneateles and the surrounding area...or get a close-up view on a bicycle. Many bicycle groups and individuals make the 32-mile trip around the lake.
For a view from the lake, Mid-Lakes Navigation Co. offers a variety of cruises. Go along while the mail boat delivers mail to old-fashioned camps on the lake, or take a dinner cruise.
