HOTTEST NEW DINING SPOTS
Let our newest area restaurants WOW your convention attendees! From classic Italian to poutine and craft beverages and a dining experience focusing on the kitchen itself, the Syracuse area is your place for some of the latest and greatest culinary spots. Check out some of our favorite recently opened restaurants:
Located right in the heart of Downtown Syracuse, across from the Clinton Square area, Defi’s kitchen is located in the center of the dining room, allowing diners to watch the creation of their custom-made fare. Dine in or take out, and don’t miss out on Defi’s tasting and pairing events held on Mondays and Tuesdays!
August 2018 brought the opening of one of Armory Square’s newest restaurants – The Hops Spot! Famous for its burgers and poutine, The Hops Spot also features a 42-tap craft beer bar.
The partners of downtown Syracuse’s hottest lunch spot, Original Grain, are ready to wow with their newest venture – XO Taco. Described as a punk-rock taco bar, XO features hand-made tortillas, a full bar with funky cocktails, and an eclectic atmosphere.
Downtown Syracuse’s newest Italian restaurant opened this summer. The restaurant’s name, meaning “by hand” in Italian, is representative of the menu’s handmade food options, primarily the pastrami and pasta.
Seafood lovers are flocking to the newly opened Storming Crab, where seafood boils are sold by the bucket. Diners are encouraged to eat directly off of the butcher paper (sans-plate), and even to sign the walls. Find Storming Crab just outside downtown, on Syracuse's east side. The restaurant has three other locations in the U.S. – two in Tennessee and one in Indiana.
In addition to new restaurants, the Syracuse Inner Harbor area is going through an exciting expansion and revitalization, offering new options for those looking to live, stay, dine or shop in the Harbor area of Onondaga Lake.
LIVE & SHOP
The addition of the Iron Pier, opening November 2018, presents a unique opportunity to live, shop and enjoy live music in the Inner Harbor area. The space features 112 apartments on the top three floors and 38,000 sq. ft. of retail space on the first floor. While still leasing space both commercially and residentially, the first floor will contain the Iron Pier Market. Featuring local food vendors, artisan work and pop-up acoustical music, the space will be one to relax, shop and enjoy a stroll down by the Harbor.
The Inner Harbor also features an Aloft hotel. A boutique hotel under the Starwood name, Aloft offers happy hours every Monday – Thursday, 5-7pm, trivia every Wednesday and live music on Friday and Saturday.
Onondaga County and the NYS Canal Corporation are working together to dredge the harbor, beginning October 2018, in hopes of bringing boats back to the Inner Harbor area by the opening of the 2019 boating season. This development will open the harbor up to boats coming in from Onondaga Lake, as well as the Erie Canal system.
The opening of The Preserve at 405 brings the Onondaga Creekwalk its first restaurant option, and stretches the downtown dining scene into the newly renovated Inner Harbor. Offering more than 60 craft beverages including both beer and wine, The Preserve also serves classic bar fare, fresh ground burgers and soups and salads. Bring your group for either interior seating (up to 100) or enjoy the patio (space for 40 people).
