In between the celebrations and champagne pops, you’ll want to determine your budget. Having an idea of what you can put towards your wedding financially will be helpful before you reach out to vendors. Pick up to three things that you would consider having a larger budget on and focus on those first.

Where do you imagine yourself getting married? Somewhere in the city or at a rustic location in the country? Do you want the ceremony and reception in the same place, or do you imagine yourself getting married in one of Onondaga county’s beautiful churches? Browse some of our recommended venues or discover unique spots to tie the knot.

Once the venue and ceremony space has been booked, you’ll want to reach out to vendors who book quickly. Find a photographer, videographer, DJ/Band, and caterer who fits your needs and budget. Make sure you get along with your photographer and videographer because you’ll be spending a lot of time with them on your wedding day! Take your time getting to know them during this stage. Hiring the right DJ or band will set the mood on your wedding day and finding a caterer whose food feels like something you and your fiancé would eat are important aspects of the day.

Are most of your guests coming from out of town? If you’re not planning a hotel wedding, you’ll need to reach out to hotels near your venue to book a room block and get a reduced rate for your guests. In addition to figuring out where your guests will stay, get save-the-dates ready to send out. You can take a photo from your engagement session with your photographer for these. Give your guests plenty of time (9-6 months) to request time off and figure out travel plans.

As it gets closer to your wedding day, you may want to think about reaching out to dress and menswear shops, local florists, bakeries, officiants, rentals, and hair and makeup artists. There are so many of these vendors in and around Syracuse. If you’re local, go visit these places before deciding. If you’re from out of the area, plan a trip with your fiancé to get final details decided. While you’re here, check out rehearsal dinner locations. You can find locations great for groups or parties on our website.
