Summer is all about enjoying being under the stars, socializing and basking in the warmth of memorable summer nights. So what better way to get that summer experience than with outdoor movies and independent film screenings? Look no further, we’ve found several options for you to incorporate frugal fun or low-to-no-cost activities. All events are open to the public and most are family friendly.
There’s still time to venture out to some of these local pop-up movie nights with your family, friends, significant other or for a solo date night. Here’s a list of outdoor pop-up screenings happening throughout Syracuse and neighboring areas in Central New York in August.

Midway Drive-In Theatre
Location: 2475 State Route 48, Minetto, NY, United States, New York
Date: Aug. 8 to Aug. 14. (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays)
Admission prices: Adult 12 and older ( $10); Children 7-11 ($5.00); 6 and under FREE
Sit back and relax under the stars while viewing box-office hits with everyone's favorite nostalgic drive-in twist. Movie-goers can watch from their car seats or outside of the vehicle, while tuning into their FM radio dial or drive-in sound system. Movie-goers can visit their on-site snack bar for a wide variety of delicious food and drink.

A film on the Field
Location: NBT Bank Stadium
Date: Aug. 14
Time: 5 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Admission prices: Adults 13 and older ($25); children 6-12 ($10); children 5 and under FREE
Presented by Hospice of Central New York and Hospice of the Finger Lakes with presenting sponsors Hematology-Oncology Associate of CNY. This outdoor family fun day is taking place on the NBT Bank Stadium field. The eventful evening is expected to have live entertainment, fireworks and a film screening of baseball classic, “Rookie of the Year.” First 250 families to attend will receive souvenirs.
Dreamboat Screening: An evening with Wool Skateboard
Location: Everson Museum of Art, Community Plaza
Date: Aug. 17
Time: 8-9 p.m.
Admission: FREE
Spend the evening indulging in art with a special exhibition DEAD END and an exclusive outdoor indie film screening of Dreamboat. The event will include a Q&A.
Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub
Location: 100 S. Lowell Ave
Date: Wednesday evenings at 8:00 pm
Admission: Free to attend
Every Wednesday at 8 p.m. Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub invites guests to The Terrace for its outdoor weekly summer movie nights. Guests can purchase a bite to eat paired with something cool to sip on while enjoying a movie. Keep an eye on their social media where they vote weekly for which movie to show.

Finger Lakes Drive-In
Enjoy current box-office films with a classic drive-in movie experience at New York State’s oldest operating drive-in theater. Movie-goers can watch from the inside or outside of their vehicles and can choose to listen from the drive-in speakers or tune into the FM radio transmission. Offering an entire snack bar with hot dogs, hamburgers, onion rings and of course popcorn there are plenty of options to munch on between showings.
