April 8th, 2024 something pretty specular is headed our way to Syracuse, NY. The Total Solar Eclipse will make its way through Syracuse for approximately 1 minute and 24 seconds around 3:23 p.m. Here’s how to prepare and make the most of this celestial spectacle. 

 

Protect your Peepers

If you’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to witness this cosmic event, we want to make sure you’re doing it safely and correctly. Purchasing or procuring official eclipse glasses. To safely see the solar eclipse you’ll need ISO 12312-2 glasses. Right now, you can find them at local establishments such as Destiny USA, The MOST, BeeKind and Wegmans. Do not look at the sun through your camera lens, telescopes, binoculars, or any other device for your eyes. This is such an amazing event to witness in Syracuse, so please take the proper precautions to keep your eyes safe!

 

Eclipse Events in CNY 

If you’re lucky enough to have no school, early dismissal, or taking the day off work, then you should take the time to check out some awesome eclipse events happening throughout Onondaga County. A few notable experiences right now are:

 

Total Eclipse of the Park is happening at the NBT Stadium for a Syracuse Mets game and the viewing of the eclipse at their tailgate party in their parking lot. The first 10,000 fans to enter the stadium will receive complimentary eclipse glasses to safely see the show brought to you by us, Visit Syracuse! 

 

Maybe baseball isn’t your thing, Don't worry the Museum of Science and Technology, The Most in downtown Syracuse for the 2024 Solar Eclipse Festival. The fest is happening from 12:00 - 4:00 pm make sure to get there early. There will be free glasses while supplies last, educational tabling activities, food trucks, and plenty of fun! This festival is free to attend.
