The dog days of summer are upon us here in Central NY, and everyone is feeling the heat. When you think it’s just too hot to do anything, don’t fear… you have options! Here are 4 of the best things to do to beat the heat this summer in Syracuse and Onondaga County.

1. The Everson Museum of Art

According to the art museum, “The Everson is for everyone, a place where community connects, and inspiration surrounds you.” Located at 401 Harrison Street, Syracuse, the Everson is the first museum to dedicate itself to American art. With a collection of over 10,000 objects, it’s a unique place to spend a relaxing morning, afternoon, or evening and beat the heat from outside. The Everson produces more than 10-15 exhibits annually which promotes repeat visitors, so if you thought you’ve seen everything in the summer, think again - make sure you stay up to date with their events and visit year-round!

Green Lakes has wonderful walking trails throughout the summer, however, when the feels like is 95-100 degrees outside, it may not be a bad idea to skip the workout and head straight to the lake for a beach day. The swimming area and beach are open daily from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm. Pack a lunch, towels, and sunscreen, and enjoy splashing in the water. Lifeguards are on duty and it’s fun for the whole family.

4. Ice Cream Treats

I scream, you scream..that it’s so hot outside. What better way to refresh yourself than getting your favorite flavor of ice cream in a cup, cone, milkshake, or flurry. With dozens of ice cream spots in Onondaga County, your options are limitless. Make your ice cream adventure fun this summer and go on an ice cream crawl. You never know when you’ll discover your new favorite sweet treat joint.
